Gaps in Initial Teacher Education
A critical gap in the Irish UDL landscape is the limited integration of UDL into Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes. Reynor (2019) noted that 'the enthusiasm and support for UDL approaches promoted by AHEAD in Ireland has been slow to influence the ITE sector in any organised or united manner,' and that 'there is no clear UDL model of practice available for pre-service teachers to observe and emulate.' While some universities have begun to offer micro-credentials and master's programmes in UDL, the integration of UDL into mainstream ITE remains inconsistent.
