Risk of Tokenism

There is a genuine risk that, in the context of the significant policy attention UDL is currently receiving in Ireland, it will be adopted superficially — as a new label for existing practice, or as a checklist of strategies to be applied without deeper understanding of the underlying principles. The publication of the new UDL Guidelines 3.0 (CAST, 2024) also means that current programmes may be based on outdated guidelines, and educators and facilitators must take time to understand the new guidelines and how they apply to the Irish context.
