UDL and Technology

Technology is a powerful enabler of UDL, providing tools and platforms that support flexible engagement, representation, and expression. Digital technologies can provide text-to-speech and speech-to-text functionality, captioning and transcription, adjustable text size and contrast, interactive multimedia content, and collaborative platforms that support diverse forms of communication and expression. However, technology is not a substitute for UDL — it is a tool in service of UDL principles. Educators should evaluate technology through the lens of UDL, selecting tools that genuinely increase flexibility and accessibility for the widest range of learners.
