UDL and the Continuum of Support

The relationship between UDL and differentiation is a source of considerable confusion in the Irish context. However, the two approaches are not mutually exclusive. UDL provides the universal design of the learning environment; differentiation provides targeted adjustments within that environment for students who need additional support. Together, they form part of a continuum of support that includes individual education plans and specialised interventions for students with the most complex needs.
