UDL in the Irish Context
In Ireland, UDL has gained increasing prominence in recent years, driven by a combination of legislative imperatives, demographic shifts in the student population, and a growing recognition that traditional models of special education and differentiated instruction are insufficient to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse learner population. The National Council for Special Education (NCSE), in its landmark 2024 Policy Advice Paper, explicitly named UDL as the best practice approach to inclusive education, recommending its embedding across all levels of the Irish education system.
