Bangladesh announces AI training for primary teachers — 23 September 2026

Bangladesh announces AI training for primary teachers

Bangladesh’s State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Bobby Hajjaj, said on 23 September 2026 that the government will arrange training in artificial intelligence and modern educational technology for primary-school teachers. He made the announcement at an Education House dialogue during the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported the announcement from a press release. The Business Standard separately reported the same remarks. The minister said technology should strengthen teachers rather than replace them, and highlighted low-resource classrooms, inclusive learning, local needs and using technology according to students’ needs.

Status

GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT / PLANNED TEACHER TRAINING — NOT A LAW, REGULATION OR BINDING SCHOOL RULE.

The reports confirm a government commitment to arrange the training. They do not announce a national rollout timetable, a start date, a budget, a mandatory curriculum change or a new legal requirement for schools.

Why this matters for inclusive education

The announcement is relevant to universal design because it puts teacher capacity, classroom reality and individual student needs ahead of technology for its own sake. That is a useful direction, but the next test will be implementation: what teachers receive, how accessibility is built in and whether the training changes everyday classroom practice.

Background

Earlier in September, the National Academy for Primary Education, with technical support from UNESCO Bangladesh, presented an ICT-AI competency framework for primary teachers. That earlier framework gives context to today’s announcement but is separate from the new training commitment.
