Dubai school pilots AI ‘digital twins’ of teachers — safeguards and rollout status — 23 September 2026
Status: confirmed pilot / partnership
GEMS Education is piloting AI-powered ‘digital twins’ of teachers at GEMS School of Research & Innovation (SRI) in Dubai under a partnership with Napster. Co-design and development begin at SRI, with a working proof of concept and initial evaluation targeted before the end of 2026.
This is not a government rule and it is not a confirmed network-wide rollout. GEMS told Gulf News on 23 September that any wider deployment will be phased and will depend on evidence of educational value, safeguarding, privacy, teacher feedback and relevant regulation. No fixed date has been set for deployment across all GEMS schools.
Safeguards described by GEMS
Access is intended to be school-controlled and teacher-authorised.
The system can be grounded in selected approved content and teacher expertise.
Teachers remain responsible, while schools can review, update or pause access.
Permissions for a teacher’s likeness, voice and expertise are part of the model and can be revoked.
Languages are to be validated for accuracy, age-appropriateness and safeguarding before student use.
Autism & Me analysis
For inclusive education, the important test is whether on-demand support removes barriers without replacing human relationships or increasing unnecessary screen dependence. GEMS says the aim is not to increase screen time and that any classroom use would be teacher-led. The pilot now needs evidence showing what actually improves learning and access.
