Ghana signs AI and digital-skills training MoU for 100,000 TVET facilitators — 22 September 2026

Ghana signs national AI and digital-skills training partnership

CONFIRMED PARTNERSHIP / TRAINING PROGRAMME — NOT LEGISLATION.

Ghana TVET Service has signed a strategic partnership with UNESCO, KPMG and Microsoft under the AI EmpowerED initiative. The agreement targets training for at least 100,000 TVET facilitators in artificial intelligence and digital competencies.

What is confirmed

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation reported the signing on 22 September 2026. Ghana TVET Service will lead national implementation. The programme is intended to strengthen instructor capacity, support curriculum enhancement and expand the use of digital tools across the TVET system.

UNESCO is providing policy leadership and technical oversight. KPMG is supporting programme design and systems strengthening. Microsoft is contributing digital infrastructure and AI-powered solutions.

What is new today

UNESCO had already confirmed on 11 September that Ghana was moving AI EmpowerED from pilot activity to nationwide expansion. That earlier announcement described phase two across around 140 TVET institutions and a wider ambition to reach up to one million educators and learners by the end of 2027. The 22 September development adds the reported formal MoU and the specific target of at least 100,000 TVET facilitators.

Status matters

This is a confirmed national education partnership and training programme. It is not a new law, classroom regulation or compulsory AI-use rule.
