Multiple Means of Action and Expression — The HOW of Learning
Multiple Means of Action and Expression addresses how learners demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. Traditional assessments — particularly timed written examinations — privilege a narrow range of expression and may systematically disadvantage learners with certain disabilities, language differences, or learning styles. UDL encourages educators to offer varied options for expression and communication (written, oral, visual, digital), to support executive functioning through scaffolding and planning tools, and to provide opportunities for students to reflect on and monitor their own learning.
