Strategies for Multiple Means of Engagement

Implementing Multiple Means of Engagement involves strategies designed to recruit and sustain student motivation, foster self-regulation, and create a learning community in which all students feel valued and can be their authentic selves. Key strategies include: providing choice and autonomy by offering options in how students engage with content; providing relevance and authenticity by connecting learning to students' lived experiences and cultural backgrounds; minimising threats and distractions by ensuring students feel safe to take risks; and building self-regulation skills by explicitly teaching students strategies for managing their emotions, setting goals, and monitoring their progress.
